The Compton Family Ice Arena, located south of the Joyce Center and north of Angela Boulevard, is the newest athletic addition to the Unversity of Notre Dame's campus and designed to help meet the needs of the campus and regional community, as well as house the Notre Dame hockey program. Opened in mid-October of 2011, this 203,000 square feet two-rink ice facility has a seating capacity of approximately 5,000 patrons (seated and standing room combined) on two levels.
The main arena provides a combination of chair back seats, bleacher seating and club seating on two levels. One of the rinks is Olympic-sized, 200'x100' and devisable into 2, 100'x 100' cross-ice rinks to support the Irish Youth Hockey League, the USA youth hockey development model and intramural broom ball use. Public skating sessions as well as drop-in hockey, figure skating sessions, club hockey, interhall hockey, physical education classes, and more.
