In addition to the multiple indoor facilities available on campus, the University offers many excellent outdoor recreation areas. Members of the Notre Dame community can readily find football, soccer and softball fields along with several basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts around campus. The addition of lights to some of the areas in the Riehle Playing and West Quad fields allow for extended recreational use.

Riehle Fields

Riehle Playing Fields are the northern grounds located near Stepan Center. Amenities include five fields for football, soccer, field hockey, or lacrosse; two fields with nighttime lighting tgat expand the hours of use; fFields are available for informal play when not reserved for intramural or club activities; three sand volleyball courts with lights; two horseshoe courts with lights; and public picnic tables and grills.

West Quad Fields

West Quad Fields, located near the new West Quad dorms and Hammes Bookstore, are home to Men's and Women's Rugby and Ultimate clubs, as well as drop-in soccer and many other informal recreation. Amenities include two fields for soccer and football; two portable softball backstops are added in the spring; two sand volleyball courts with lights (McGlinn Courts); three basketball courts with lights (McGlinn Courts); fields are available for informal play when not reserved for intramural or club activities.

Courtney Courts

Courtney Courts are outdoor tennis courts adjacent to Eck Tennis Pavilion. These 14 outdoor courts are available when not in use by varsity teams, camps or other specified groups. Contact the Eck Tennis Center at +1 574 631 6929 with questions about court availability.

Saint Joseph Beach

The campus is also blessed with St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s lakes which provide runners and walkers with peaceful, scenic routes. St. Joseph’s lake also features a beachfront complete with an area for swimming and boat rentals.

Reservations

While drop-in recreation, outdoor facilities may be reserved through RecSports by an approved student organization and other groups recognized by the University. For more information, please contact Dave Brown +1 631 6192.
