This week’s game of the week pitted The Blouses vs Chalupas in a top of the line CoRec Broomball match.
The Chalupas showed up early and in force with eleven suited players and loyal fans all of whom engaged in a pregame warm-up Frisbee game. On the other hand, The Blouses were forced to play short handed with a squad of three men and two girls.
Off the face-off it looked as though The Blouses would not need the extra player as they sprinted down the ice to get an early chance which was only stopped by a great sliding save. The man advantage could not be stopped though as the Chalupas quickly raced back down the ice and scored quickly on the counter attack, giving them a 1-0 lead and leading to rampant celebration.
The Chalupas did not let up with the lead as the keep on the relentless attack notching shot after shot and rarely giving up possession. Eventually one of the barrages of shots by the Chalupas found the back of the net adding to the lead and leading to a half-time score of 2-0
The Blouses came firing back in the second half with two good break away chances only to be stone walled by the Chalupas goalie. At last the third break away for the Blouses resulted in a beautiful back-hand shot for a goal to close the gap to 2-1 with nearly five minutes left.
In the closing part of the game the Chalupas wisely used their deep bench to keep fresh legs on the ice against the tired Blouses. The result was another barrage of shots one of which was a great one-time shot that almost went through the legs of the Blouses’ goalie, but he squeezed them together at the last second to save the ball. He could not make the next save though as another one-timer was hit from the slot into the upper right corner as time ran off the clock to seal the game for the Chalupas at 3-1.
