This week’s Game of the Week saw the graduate students from Laws’t Boys and Chemistry et al (representing their respective areas of study) battle for the Campus Softball Championship.
The scoring started quickly as the third batter in the game hit a home run to give the Laws’t Boys a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Although, the lead did not look as though it would hold as Chemistry et al’s lead-off hitter struck back with a solo home run to start the second half of the inning. The inning was not over yet as a walk, single, and sacrifice fly contributed to the production of two more runs before ending the first with a 3-2 lead for Chemistry et al.
The second inning did not bring a change from the first as the Laws’t Boys strung four hits together scoring two runs and recapturing the lead at 4-2. Not to be out done in the back and forth battle Chemistry et al score four times with the help of a walk, two errors, and a triple giving them a lead of 7-4.
Laws’t Boys seemed to lose their bats after the first two innings only managing one more run in the third and a total of five hits in the final five innings. As for Chemistry et al the brakes were never applied. The lead-off hitter belted his second home run of the game in the third inning giving him 4 RBIs on the day, while eight more hits, a walk, and another error ended the scoring at 13. The single bright spot for the Laws’t Boys in the final innings came from the pitcher as he picked up the very rare softball strike-out not once but twice.
With a final score of 13-5 this installment of Game of the Week brought all the excitement one could hope for and a new RecSports Champion. Congratulations to Chemistry et al and a well played game by the Laws’t Boys.
