In their season finale this weekend, the Notre Dame women's hockey club traveled to Chicago to take on the Frozen Snappers. The Irish blew the Snappers out of the water from start to finish. Less than a minute into the game sophomore Emily Chappell started the scoring off a set play from junior Margaret Knoedler. This was followed moments later by a pass from first year Gillian Allsup to first year Tess Ryan for the second Irish goal. Ryan would score twice more, registering her first collegiate hat trick. The first period ended with a rebound goal by Knoedler off of a shot from defensive first year Cassie Kral.

The Snappers struggled and were unable to stop the Irish’ Chappell from taking the puck on the second period's opening face off and scoring an unassisted goal. Later that period senior Kara Brennan put it in the net thanks to fine passes from Knoedler and junior Amy Wilhelmy. Several Irish skaters spent the third period in the penalty box. Despite the shorthanded situation, Knoedler managed to score again with an assist by Chappell. The Irish won 8-0, as sophomore goalie Megan Aimola recorded her first shutout.

The team enjoyed succes this year in large part due to the dedication and commitment of seniors Kara Brennan, Laura Steinbrenner, Alicia Burtner, Casey Bouskill, and coach Ollie Short. "They each brought something so different to the team," says Wilhelmy, "and next season will be so different without them. We're really going to miss them."

The Irish will finish up their season against the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor next weekend.

A short-handed women’s ice hockey club dropped two games at Ohio State this weekend, 10-3 and 9-3. The Irish were without the services of several key defensive players in Columbus.
