CoRec Broomball Rules

1. Play with a maximum of six players (3 male/3 female).
2. You may start with 4 players (2 male/2 female).
3. Goalies may stop the ball by catching, trapping, covering, or batting it with hands or broom (below the waist).
4. In clearing the ball, the goalie may pick it up, carry out of crease or (underhand) toss it to the nearest corner/dasher boards. The goalie can't hold it for more than 3 seconds. The goalie may NOT: throw ball toward opponent's end of rink, intentionally out of bounds, interfere with an opponent near the goal, or move cones or goals deliberately.
5. A goal counts as one point when it passes between cones and lowers than top of dasher board. 6. A goal will not count if it is deliberately kicked, thrown, or carried into goal by any means other than the broom.
7. Game will be played in two 10-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime.
8. Ties will be broken with a 3-person shoot out (2 men/1 woman or vice versa). Keep shooting out with different shooters until tie is broken.
9. Games will start when supervisor blows whistle. One watch will run both games.
10. Face-offs will begin when home team passes ball up ice from own goal line. Defense must stay at half ice until first pass is made.
11. Any violation will transfer possession to the other team at spot of violation. These include kicking or hand passing to teammate, carrying ball with hand, high sticking and hitting opponent's broom with your own. No violation may be waived even by mutual consent of teams.
12. This game is construed as a fun, recreational activity. There will be no referees. Any roughing problems will be directed to the student supervisor and any repeated problems will result in ejection of those involved and suspension for the season. Any team having an ejection in a second game will forfeit that game as well as the rest of the season. All fights will result in forfeits on the spot, removal from the league, and a written report that will be submitted to student affairs.
13. Any abuse of the equipment that results in breakage will be charged directly to that participant.
