November 2019: Katherine Relick
"I would like to nominate Katherine Relick as the MOST Outstanding Student Employee of the Month for November. Katherine was trained late in the spring and really hit the ground running this semester. She has consistently proven to be a dependable employee for us. One of her first shifts, the first week of the semester, I could tell she had a lot of passion to work. She embraces the busiest times and also some of the slower times at 5:45 a.m. Regardless of the timing of her shift, you can guarantee she will be engaged with everyone she is working with that day. She has made such a positive impact on our Front Desk operation. Her peers have also commented on her behavior at work by stating she is professional, displays great work habits, genuine, and enthusiastic. I noticed these traits by the way she managed the desk being a new employee during the first week of the semester. For these reasons, I am nominating Katherine as the MOST Outstanding Student Employee of the Month for November. Thank you for all you do for the RecSports department!"

I enjoy hanging out with friends in my free time, and I take up any opportunity to interact with kids (I say in the least creepy way possible). I also love to swim, read, and watch movies, but hiking and traveling are definitely my two biggest hobbies. I love Christmas, so this is my favorite time of year. I am looking forward to going home to bake, shop, and watch Christmas classics with my mom.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I am not exactly sure what I want to do currently, but I hope to pursue a career in international development or public policy. I am passionate about serving others, advocating for kids, and helping those find their voice when they feel like noone is listening. I will likely either go to law school or grad school depending whether I choose to go into policy or development research. Ultimately, a career like Professor D'Agostino would be the dream because he works in development research and policy for education, as well as teaching about what he does.
What are the top 3 reasons you enjoy working at RecSports?
1. I love getting to know all the people I work with, for RecSports truly cultivates a relaxed, friendly community in which everyone is happy to see one another.
2. I love getting to welcome people into the facility and to get to know the regulars. It always makes me happy being able to give people a smile and hello that I likely would not ordinarily come across.
3. The environment of RecSports is a large part as to why I love working there. It is a reminder of how great a healthy lifestyle is and it motivates me by seeing people so determined and consistent.
What’s one thing you would like everyone at RecSports to know about you?
I love kids and hope to dedicate my career in some way to serving children in tough situations such as foster care, domestic violence, lack of education, etc. This passion was evoked through my internship at a domestic violence shelter last summer. Also, shameless plug that if you have kids I am a babysitter and always love the chance to do so!! (:
