February 2017: Sarah Hennessy
"I would like to nominate Sarah Hennessy for the MOST Outstanding Student Employee of the Month for February. Amazing! Hard worker! Patient! These are all words that describe Sarah Hennessy. Sarah has been our Club Sports Program Assistant since October and has been an absolute joy to have on staff! She comes into work with a smile on her face and is always willing to get done what is needed for the day. She has been patient with me (which can be hard at times I’m sure) and open to learning all the procedures of the program’s day-to-day operations. Sarah is now checking our club sports email daily, processing travel and financial forms, assisting in creating practice schedules, restocking medical supplies in kits, communicating daily with officers regarding meetings, packages, and practices, and doing miscellaneous projects. More times than not, when I ask Sarah to do something, she already has it done before I ask. She is always willing to stay later or come back at another time to get a project done. Most importantly, Sarah did a FANTASTIC job while I was gone for a week at NIRSA with keeping the club submitted paperwork processed smoothly, checked in with clubs regarding arrived mail, responded to emails, answered officer questions, and completed last minute items for me while I was in DC. Not only is Sarah a Program Assistant, but she’s also a Club Sport Supervisor. She is constantly picking up the shifts that no one wants to work and rarely says no when someone needs a sub. Sarah has been battling the campus cold for a few weeks as well and not once has she let that affect her time and productivity in the office. She is a true example of a selfless team player and I, and the program, couldn’t be as nearly productive the last 2 months without her assistance while I’ve been doing individual club meetings and at the NIRSA national conference. For these many reasons, I would like to nominate Sarah as she is most deserving of being named MOST Outstanding Student Employee of the Month!"

My academic interests have tended to focus on dialectical materialism and on issues of human rights, particularly among migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. In my free time I like to read works on Buddhist philosophy, learn new languages, and listen to music. My favorite band is The Killers!

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I try to be open to anything, but I would love to find a job related to archaeological conservation, preservation of endangered languages, or special education.
What are the top 3 reasons you enjoy working at RecSports?
- Mandy is upbeat and positive regardless of what each day brings. She has made working here a truly wonderful experience!
- Everyone in the office is both friendly and helpful, I always feel welcome!
- I have met so many amazing people that I wouldn't have otherwise, whether Club Sports Supervisors, Club Officers, or other RecSports employees.
What’s one thing you would like everyone at RecSports to know about you?
I love horror movies but I'm absolutely terrified of ghosts - over the summer my friend and I had a brush with the paranormal and I was completely useless, it was really embarrassing!
