Hailey returned this spring from a semester abroad and immediately hit the ground running. She stepped seamlessly back into her Head Lifeguard role, quickly reestablishing herself as a trusted leader, mentor, and confidant for the entire lifeguard team. Hailey brings a rare level of pride and integrity to her work. She holds herself to an exceptionally high standard and consistently challenges those around her to rise to the occasion.
Although training is not her primary focus area on the Head Guard team, Hailey took the initiative to lead the planning of our February in-service. She recognized a gap and stepped forward without hesitation, delivering a thoughtful and engaging experience for the staff.
This February’s in-service was structured as a scavenger hunt. Hailey spearheaded the trivia station, which required the most planning and organization. She also developed forms for the teams to use throughout the scavenger hunt and additional tasks for the guards to complete between stations. When she noticed other stations needed a bit more attention, she communicated proactively and offered support, ensuring the entire event was cohesive, organized, and positive.
As part of the scavenger hunt, lifeguards were invited to vote anonymously for a teammate they felt was doing an outstanding job. It was no surprise that Hailey’s name appeared more than any other. Even less surprising was her response — she immediately asked that other staff members be recognized instead of her.
Peer nominations described Hailey as approachable and knowledgeable about Rock operations, consistently helpful and kind, and always willing to step in when needed — including jumping into a mid-day lifeguard shift when the team was short-staffed.
Hailey’s growth during her time with RecSports has been remarkable. In Spring 2024, she was hesitant to speak up, avoided the spotlight, and lacked confidence in navigating difficult peer conversations. In Spring 2026, she stands as a confident, capable leader who fully embodies the values of Student Development and the culture we strive to create.
