Quinn has been a mentor to many of our staff members across the program areas in which she works. She has also become a mentor to the entire staff in her role as a CPR instructor. Quinn has stepped in to teach many of our courses this year and to lead hands-on skill practice sessions.
Quinn is one of the instructors whom we encourage new instructors to shadow. She ensures that the American Red Cross materials are followed while bringing her passion to the work. care for others, and dedication to safety. She provides critical feedback and encourages everyone to reach a high level of proficiency. This month, she also had to navigate the difficulty of not passing a group of participants in a course. She handled the situation better than many seasoned instructors would have. She made sure feedback was given throughout the course, spoke with the individuals about the decision, explaining the why, and listened to them when there was pushback. She also communicated promptly with professional staff and provided a thorough, heartfelt write-up for each participant, outlining what was needed for them to be prepared to take the course again. She also made sure that everyone knew the students who didn't pass were a pleasure to have in class and that she would cheer them on to try again.
She brought this experience back to the student-instructor team and provided valuable insight for other instructors who have not had to navigate a situation like this themselves.
