The Irish opened up the winter semester before classes even started Sunday, January 12 against Ball State, overcoming a lackluster first period to defeat the Cardinals 8-1. With a short bench and shaky legs the Irish (8-6-2) ended the first period tied, with junior goaltender Justin Dancu making a number of impressive saves to keep Ball State off the board.
Notre Dame notched five second-period goals to put the game away. Freshman defenseman Brett Magnan led the offensive effort for the Irish with two goals, and five other players scored for the Irish.
Dancu finished with 27 saves in the victory.
