On Saturday, November 1, eighteen members of the Notre Dame Running Club trekked to the rolling hills of Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the NIRCA Great Lakes Regional. The men's race was a distance of 8 kilometers and the women's 6 kilometers. After a morning of snowfall, it luckily heated up to a stable temperature of 35 degrees.
Despite the brutal wind and chilly temperatures, the Irish made quite a showing. The men's team placed fifth with 151 points. They were led by John Riordan, Cole Wintheiser,Jack Riely, Flannan Hehir, Dan Pape, Ryan Hart, Ian Kelly, Liam O'Connor and Issac Wappes.
The women's team slipped into third place with a score of 79, just two points ahead of Michigan State University. Kristina Krasich and Tammi Del Ponte set a good pace for the team by finishing in the top 10. Iciar Ocariz-Elsen, Bridget Bruns, Melissa Budicini, Abbey Murphey, and Olivia Dietzel also put forth great races.
The runners had a wonderful time experiencing their first NIRCA regional meet and look forward to running nationals on November 15!
