This past Saturday the Women’s Rugby team invited the Panthers of Davenport University to Stinson Rugby Field for a charity game.  The Irish raised money for the Kay Yow foundation, which funds breast cancer research.  Not only were the Irish able to raise a large amount of money for the foundation, but they also defeated Davenport.  It was a very intense game between two excellent programs.  The game began with an Irish score by senior Anna Fraser, but Davenport was able to answer with a try of their own before half time.  With the score tied at the beginning of the half, the Irish knew they had to push harder.  This showed when they made a huge drive down the field, which ended with St. Mary’s freshman Bella Bianco.  However, the Panthers came back with two more tries.  The Irish were down 15 to 10 with ten minutes left in the game when they made a break and Katie Loughran scored once more.  Junior Claire Kozlowski made the point after kick to put the Irish ahead 17 to 15.  But Notre Dame didn’t stop there.  With five minutes left they were able to break through again and senior Leah Fisher scored the final try of the game.  The final score was 22 to 15 with the Irish defeating Davenport.
