The women's club soccer team traveled to the University of Illinois this Saturday for 2 games. Their first game was against Illinois, who came out strong and found a goal early in the first half despite a strong defensive line and a great performance by sophomore goalkeeper Kiley Adams. The Irish continued to fight back, but the Illini found a second goal before the half ended. The Irish came back and maintained possession for most of the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net for a 2-0 final loss.
Their second game was against Illinois State University. The two teams went back and forth and the first half. The Irish had several offensive opportunities, particularly from sophomore forward Destiny Anamege, but it was ISU that scored off of a corner towards the end of the first half. The Irish came back in the second half fired up. Within 5 minutes, sophomore midfielder Maddie McCormick earned a free kick just outside of the box for the Irish. Senior forward Mary Wickert took the kick, which was deflected off an ISU defender and resulted in an Irish corner kick. Wickert took the corner and senior defender Erin Doone managed to get her head on the ball to score and tie up the game. Shortly thereafter, a massive thunderstorm developed, causing the game to be called and resulting in a 1-1 tie.
