The Women’s Club Ice Hockey team hosted the Brew City Blades on Saturday, February 2nd for a two game series. With the first game starting at 7:30AM, the Blades capitalized on the sleepy play of the Irish, scoring 3 goals on the Irish freshman goalie, Madeline Kramer, in the first period. Although Kramer made several big stops throughout the next two periods, the Blades continued to pound on the Irish, resulting in a final score of 9-0. After a postgame speech by captain Mary Salvi, the Irish resolved to play better in the second game at 4:00PM. Once again, the Blades came out just as strongly as they did in the first game, scoring three goals on the Irish junior goalie, Mary Salvi, in the first period. However, the Irish would not go quietly; with 3 seconds left in the second period, sophomore defenseman Jackie Dunn wristed a shot over the Blades’ goalie’s glove to put the Irish on the board for the first time in the weekend, 7-1. By the third period it was clear that the damage was already done; the Blades went on to win 10-2. The Irish will conclude the season with 4 home games this weekend against Michigan State and UW-Madison.
