Training Policies

Who can train with us?

Personal training is available to any Notre Dame student, faculty, staff, retiree, or spouse with an active Irish1Card.

All New and Returning Clients are required to complete the client questionnaire form upon each purchasing of a training package in order to train.

Client Questionnaire

Initial Consultation

An initial consultation with your personal trainer is required as part of each personal training package, with the exception of renewals. This consultation is an opportunity to meet your trainer and discuss your goals, interests, and tactics that will be used in the sessions, set a regular training schedule, and more.

How to prepare:

  • Come dressed in comfortable clothes to move around and athletic shoes. This meeting will not include strenuous exercise, but you will move around. The amount you move will depend on how much time is left over after your consultation.
  • Expect to discuss your goals or be prepared to create some with your trainer during this meeing. This information will help your trainer elaborate on your client questionnaire and better set you up for success as they plan your future sessions.
  • There will be an optional gym tour. Please note that if you do the gym tour, there may be less time for the workout assessments.
  • Inital consultations are required for all first time clients. If you buy a second package, your initial consultation will become a normal session.

Scheduling Sessions

  • Trainers will be matched with you based on your availability and theirs. You are able to request a specific trainer during the purchase and completion of your client questionnaire, but it is not guaranteed.
  • Session dates are determined by the personal trainer and client in the Smith Center or Rockne Memorial.
  • Session lengths can be determined by the personal trainer and client for up to 1 hour. Sessions are deducted by meeting regardless of the length determined.
  • Personal training sessions take place during normal building operating hours.

Please check our facility hours for updates and changes.

Session Cancelations

  • Cancelations require a 24-hour notice to the personal trainer.
  • Late cancelations will result in a session deduction.
  • If the client does not arrive within 15 minutes of the session start time and there has been no communication with the personal trainer, the session will be forfeited, and the trainer is free to leave. Otherwise, the session will end based upon the original start time.
  • Missed group training sessions can’t be made up on an individual basis.

Expiration

  • Packages expire 12 months from the date of purchase.
  • Client Questionnaires expire 12 months from their date of completion.

Refunds

  • If half of the package sessions have been completed, ¼ of the total cost will be refunded.
  • If ¼ of the package sessions have been completed, ½ of the cost will be refunded.
